After 6 years participation in the Red Bull Air Race world Championship, Mike Mangold has announced he will move-on after the season’s 6th and final race. Mike joined the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in 2004 and has twice won the world championship in 2005 and 2007. He has 10 race wins in his career, the 2nd most of any pilot. Mike was a pioneer of aircraft modifications which has become a major factor for winning in the Red Bull Air Race Championship.

“I want to pursue more time with my family and focus on jet racing and air shows. I will continue fulfilling my ‘Need for Speed’ by racing my L-29 Viper Jet at 500+ mph around the course at Reno-Stead,” said Mangold.

 ”I would like to thank my team, equipment suppliers and fans for their unwavering support over the years…. And remember ‘Speed is Life’”

Bernd Loidl, CEO of the Red Bull Air Race GmbH said, “I would like to say a huge thank you to Mike. His contribution to the Red Bull Air Race World Championship since it started cannot be underestimated. He has been an integral part in the development of the sport and has given us some memorable and exciting moments over the years. We will obviously miss him and he leaves the sport with our very best wishes.”

 The full pilot line up for the 2010 Red Bull Air Race World Championship season will be announced in October.

 Team Mangold had a good training day 1. We will be much more solid tomorrow and onto Quali and Race! Stay Tuned….

Its a beautiful day here in Barcelona. Our hotel is a bit out of the way. Doesn’t make it that easy but it is interesting! Calibration flights today. A bit of rain in the morning… we hope it stays clear for the weekend events!

An Amazing time up at the Reno Air Show. I placed a solid 2nd. The jet was fast (but not fast enough). We had a blast, selling our new shirts and enjoying the sunshine. The classic Mangold came out every time on start up with a little smoke to for Curt to find his way…   

 How great are these fans?!? Best in Europe!

We ended up at Maia from the bad fog down by the TRW. It was great weather and very peaceful. Not a great place for Team Mangold to go into Race Day with… But i’ll pull through! For the Fans at least!
